Those who have visited Dublin will know that sipping Guinness by a fire in a nice old pub while it's chucking it down outside is one of life's great pleasures. It's also, as you can probably imagine, the perfect setting for eagerly hatching wild ideas and schemes. And so on one such blustery and cold night in September two friends, Tim Rice-Oxley and Jesse Quin decided (whilst in wildly animated conversation about music and probably also well on their way to needing a taxi home) that they would make a country album. As with so many ideas that come about on a belly full of Jameson's, in the cold light of day it did not seem like such a good plan. Two English men trying to sing like Hank Williams was definitely a recipe for disaster. The whole thing was forgotten about in the time it took to recover from the headache that morning. But the headache was to return.

Oct 2010The Freebutt Presents: Mice Parade
Mice Parade was originally the solo project of New Yorker Adam Pierce, who has also played in Swirlies, The Dylan Group, HiM, múm, and Philistines Jr.
Book Now
From its outset, Mice Parade showed a boldly inventive, highly individual take on post-rock / electronica. Following 1998's Bubble Core album, 'The True Meaning Of BoddleyBaye', their first FatCat album, 'Ramda' (‘99), forged a distinctive, immersive audio space of piled-up percussion and atmospheric, hook-laden melodics.
Featuring guest vocals from Letitia Sadier and Kristin Valtisdóttir, Mice Parade's most recent eponymously titled offering, released in June 2007, could be seen as a refined take on the ground made over the previous two, merging folk-tinged electronica with the ‘Loveless’ era swoon of My Bloody Valentine, the rhythmic subtlety of Can, and the opaque melodic experiments of Brian Eno. Yet as ever, Mice Parade’s sound is essentially modern, informed by an esoteric palette, retaining a familiar acoustic presence via an uncliched take on folk/world influences.
Mice Parade are set to release a new album - the frolicking, giddy-paced 'What It Means To Be Left-Handed' - in September 2010 followed by an extensive tour of the UK and Europe.

Melting Vinyl Presents....FRAZEY FORD + Support
Book Now
Whether it was her family’s emigration to Canada in the ’70s (where Frazey was born) or exploring Asia with her mother and sister in the ’80s, Ford is a soul well traveled. Best known throughout the last 10 years as a member of the critically acclaimed Vancouver trio The Be Good Tanyas, Ford is now ready to tell her own story with a solo album she describes as being “moved by motherhood, earth and land.” Obadiah is a collection of songs hand-carved by the hardships and exaltations of life, and stained with the rich colors of soul and folk music that fueled artists like Joni Mitchell, Ann Peebles, Neil Young, and Donny Hathaway. After a period of stillness, it’s the sound of Ford finding herself once again.
Recorded during a blissful Vancouver summer at the studio of co-producer and multi-instrumentalist John Raham, Obadiah came to life with the help of an intimate assembly of guests. Trish Klein of The Be Good Tanyas lay down yards of velvety smooth electric guitar, while next-door neighbor Caroline Ballhorn, contributed vocals. Ford’s landlord even dropped in to play keyboards, as Cuban style chords go back and forth with warm Wurlitzer licks on the playful “Like You Better.” By putting her faith in an assortment of capable companions, Ford let the songs unfold naturally, embracing the little experiments and happy accidents that give the album so much character.

Nov 2010I Blame Coco
Electro-pop project I Blame Coco is essentially the voice of young actress and model Coco Sumner, daughter of Sting. Despite the family connection, musically Coco is a million miles away from her father, instead delivering pulsating slick synth electro tuneage. Rather than The Police, her material has more in common with the likes of Ladytron, Lady Gaga and Robyn, who coincidentally appears as a guest vocalist on the debut single 'Caesar'. I Blame Coco's debut album 'The Constant' looks set to make Coco an electro-pop star in her own right.
